A movement built by Precipice Health

The Precipice

Every life reaches moments where the path forward disappears. We build the crossings — and stand beside the people making them.

Give your time. Share your talent. Provide the means.
One flat covenant. No tiers. No perks. No purchased influence.

Why this exists

A problem would not leave him alone.

Roger Mishoe built the first Precipice tool at a kitchen table after midnight. A Navy and Marine Corps veteran, former federal Chief Data Officer, and chronic migraine patient, he knew what it felt like to be unseen by a system empowered to decide his future.

The work grew from one conviction: technology should reduce cognitive burden and increase human flourishing — not engagement, not screen time, not dependence.

“No one should have to face life's hardest chapters alone.”

Three ways to stand a post

Time · Talent · Treasure. Every post carries equal weight.

Deliberately unranked, deliberately unpriced. There are no membership tiers on this page. There are no perks. There is no private call for donors, no roadmap seat sold at a monthly rate, no name printed larger for having given more. This is patronage, not investment — and the Charter enforces that.

01

Time

Test, listen, welcome, convene, document. Help the movement remain close to lived reality.

  • Beta-test new crossings before they open
  • Mentor other Watchkeepers
  • Attend community convenings and share what you saw
  • Help document real-world results
Give my time
02

Talent

Contribute craft, knowledge, critique, research, storytelling, or institutional experience — without displacing the voices closest to the problem.

  • Engineering, design, writing, legal, clinical, ops
  • Peer-review the roadmap and the Charter
  • Research, translation, community organizing
  • Introductions to mission-aligned institutions
Share my talent
03

Treasure

Financial support given transparently through the public Open Collective ledger. Any amount, one-time or recurring — you choose. The Charter caps any single contributor at $50,000 per year so the mission can never be captured by wealth.

  • Any amount, one-time or recurring — you choose
  • Every dollar itemized on Open Collective
  • Public receipt; refundable within 30 days
  • Charter-capped: $50,000 per contributor per year

The flat covenant

Money buys hosting and models. Not moral ownership.

Larger contributions may accelerate a specific crossing. They cannot buy private calls with the founder, exemption from the Covenant, seats on decisions about user data, or the right to override product truth. Every Watchkeeper — time, talent, or treasure — is on the same ledger, at the same weight, with the same voice.

Our Open Collective application is in review.

Open Collective is still processing our application. When the ledger opens, this page will flip from "reserve your place" to a live Give button and a running balance you can watch.

The ledger is live

Every contribution — and every expense — is public.

View the full running balance and expense log on Open Collective. You can browse who has given, what we've spent, and the receipts — all without an account.

Where every dollar goes

Compute, hosting, models. That is where.

Precipice Health has no marketing budget, no venture capital, and no salaries paid from patronage. Every dollar of Watchkeeper support goes to the technical infrastructure that keeps the products running responsibly — and every dollar is itemized on the public ledger.

These shares are the current internal budget target. The actual per-quarter split will appear on the live Open Collective ledger once it opens, and in the quarterly State of The Precipice.

Infrastructure transparency
No corporate suites. No venture capital. No middlemen between the mission and the work.

Precipice Health is veteran-owned and founder-funded. When Watchkeepers open the Open Collective, every dollar's destination will be public — hosting, secure storage, AI models, APIs, and the technical infrastructure required to build responsibly. No back rooms, no admin overhead, no black-box budgets.

Common questions

What Watchkeepers ask first.

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, email opencollective@precipice-health.com.

Why did you get rid of donor tiers?
Because tiered patronage looks too much like investment. The moment we sold a "Founding" level with a private call to the founder or a seat on the roadmap, the Charter's promise that money cannot buy moral ownership became a marketing line. So we deleted the tiers. Any amount, one-time or recurring — every Watchkeeper stands on the same ledger, at the same weight, with the same voice.
What is the $50,000 annual contributor cap?
A single person, family, business, foundation, or affiliated group may contribute no more than $50,000 per calendar year to The Precipice, in aggregate across all forms of financial support. The cap is written into Article IV of the Charter and exists to make the movement uncapturable by any single donor. If more is offered, we thank the giver and decline the excess — publicly.
Is my contribution tax-deductible?
This depends on our fiscal host under Open Collective. We are applying to Open Collective Foundation (a US 501(c)(3)) — if accepted, US-based contributions become tax-deductible and OC issues receipts automatically. If we go with a non-501(c)(3) host, contributions are patronage rather than deductible gifts. We will state the answer plainly on this page the moment the host is finalized.
Can I cancel or refund?
Yes. Open Collective lets you cancel any recurring contribution in one click, at any time, from your account. Refund requests for the current period are honored without questions within 30 days — email opencollective@precipice-health.com and we'll process it. No dark patterns, no retention gauntlet.
Will my name appear publicly on the ledger?
Only if you choose. Open Collective lets every contributor pick between showing their name, showing a display name, or contributing anonymously. Your contribution is on the public ledger regardless — only your identity is up to you.
Does giving more get me more influence?
No, and this is written into the Charter. Larger contributions may accelerate specific crossings, but they cannot buy exemption from the Covenant of Practice, seats on decisions about user data, or the right to override product truth. This is why we call it patronage, not investment — and why we capped any single contributor at $50,000 per year.
Can a company or foundation contribute?
Yes, subject to Article V of the Charter, and subject to the same $50,000 annual cap that applies to individuals. We welcome mission-aligned corporate patronage and grants when the terms preserve product truth, user rights, editorial independence, and the Covenant. We decline capital that requires transferring governing control or extracting value from personal data.
When does Open Collective actually open?
Our application is in fiscal-host review. Timelines vary from 1 to 3 weeks depending on the host. The instant it goes live, this page flips: the "Reserve your place" buttons become real "Give via Open Collective" buttons, and a live-balance widget appears in the status banner. Bookmark this page — it's the address that won't change.

The Founding Charter

The promises come before the products.

The Charter records the problems we have committed to solving, the principles we refuse to compromise, and the covenant future builders must inherit. Version 1.4 adds the flat covenant and the $50,000 annual contributor cap.
